The Sleep Lab team received the Lighthouse Award for their initiative when it comes to problem solving their CPAP adherence levels. The Lighthouse Award is an accolade given to teams that are excelling in an area of Continuous Improvement, while being a beacon of light in the stormy seas of change. CPAP adherence is around 50% nationwide, a number that our own Sleep Lab department hovered around last year. Not happy with the quality of care they were delivering in regards to patients using their CPAP machines, the team set a goal for 85% patient compliance. The team implemented multiple ideas and worked on several objectives around improving adherence. Recently, a Sleep Lab team member asked Huey’s Home Medical (one of the medical supply companies Christie Clinic refers patients) for the number of patients that met the adherence guidelines and the results were staggering. Of 173 Christie Clinic patients with recent CPAP prescriptions, 155 met or exceeded adherence criteria. That’s 89.6%, well above the national average and surpasses their team goal. When compared to other sleep labs nationwide they were way above the norm. Because of their focus, creativity and innovation, patients are now sleeping better and living healthier lives. Great job Sleep Lab!!!
